Food Makes You Look Older?

Happy Friday! Excitement is in the air because there's going to be BBQ parties everywhere this weekend!

Ever feel bloated and uneasy after a hefty BBQ session? Does your skin feel greasy and bumpy after a good pig out session? Mine sure does.  Sometimes it's hard to stay away from all the salty, charred goodness that is BBQ's but it could very well also be the reason why your skin might feel "off".

That black char on your burger? It may contain pro-inflammatory hydrocarbons, which could present a problem since inflammation breaks down the collagen in your skin. You don't necessarily need to banish BBQ from your vocab, but at least make sure you scrape off the black stuff, and clean the grill afterward so you don't contaminate your next meal.

Salt is a big culprit too. You might not cook with salt, but that doesn't guarantee your intake is low.

"Many canned foods are preserved with sodium, which can make you retain water and cause a 'puffy' look," said Dr. Ranella Hirsch, former president of the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology & Aesthetic Surgery, and dermatologist practicing in Massachusetts.

If you need a quick fix, combat fluid retention with a moisturizer that contains caffeine (it's known for reducing puffiness when applied topically) or rice peptide.

Your skin will thank you in the long run if we limit the intake of foods that can slow down collagen production because your body is so busy breaking down everything else that's happening.  Help your skin out by giving it a good "skin cleanse" from time to time by eating greener, leafier, foods!
