7 Fall Wellness Tips to Keep you Healthy This Season

Posted by Viva Health Skincare on

For most of us, 2021 probably resembled very closely to 2020… Despite our efforts to making up for lost time, we run the risk of weakening our immune system and burning out (which is far from what anyone wants during these unprecedented times). Fall has officially arrived and so has cold & flu season.  It’s the perfect time to stay inside, turn to comfort foods and slack off just a tad bit. But, we’re here to help you with a few tips to continue your healthy habits right through to the end of the year. Let’s finish this year on a strong note feeling our absolute best:

Consume immunity-boosting foods —Eating healthy foods with vitamin A, C and E (like limes, oranges, red peppers, and leafy greens) are key to fighting off infections. Garlic, ginger, turmeric, and almonds are also big winners when it comes to boosting your health and immunity.

Do smart swaps on comfort foods — There’s nothing like a savory, rich soup on a crisp fall day. Instead of making a calorie rich clam chowder with cream, consider opting for a veggie soup filled with fiber-rich vegetables. Consider swopping butter for coconut oil and heavy creams for coconut milk.

Minimize your sugar intake — It’s easy to raid your kids’ Halloween bag for your favorite treat. Before you know it, it’s only the first week of November and half the bag is already gone thanks to you sneaking a treat every night. Eliminate the temptation and skip the Halloween candy discount aisle, too. Want it out of your house? You can also donate candy to the troops!

Sterilize your most touched items and keep your hand sanitizer nearby — Your cell phone, keyboard, remote, and tablet are all germ habitats. It’s good to make it a habit to sanitize these areas. Try to wash your hands whenever you can with warm soapy water.

Drink lots of water — Don’t be fooled, your body can lose as much fluid in colder climates as it might in hot ones due to the high rates of energy used. Try to drink at least 1-2 liters of water per day. An appropriate water intake will also keep your skin supple, which can be a problem as the weather gets drier.

Switch up your exercise routines — If you live in colder climates, you’re probably more inclined to turn to indoor activities during the colder months. Make it less of a shock by slowly incorporating indoor gym sessions. Try a new class like kickboxing or salsa to get your cardio fix and heart rate up.

Enjoy the cooler weather outdoors — Fresh air is still so important, there’s no better time to enjoy the outdoors. Take in the beauty of the changing leaves, the crisp air, and the sounds of nature. In fact, a walk in nature can boost your mood and creativity while also relaxing you. Some fun fall activities may include fall festivals, pumpkin or apple picking with friends and family.

Change can be hard, try incorporating one tip a week. You may even ask a colleague or friend to join you in checking off each of these tips as you try them. Or consider making it a mini fall challenge.

Have a happy and healthy fall!
